Presentation Title:

Lifestyle Medicine as the Foundation of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide, accounting for over 20 million deaths annually according to the World Health Organization. Despite significant advances in pharmacotherapy and interventional cardiology, lifestyle-related risk factors remain the primary drivers of global cardiovascular burden.

Unhealthy dietary patterns, physical inactivity, chronic stress, sleep disturbances, tobacco use, and metabolic disorders such as obesity and insulin resistance substantially increase cardiovascular risk. Contemporary preventive cardiology emphasizes early risk identification and behavioral modification before irreversible structural damage occurs.

According to the European Society of Cardiology and the American Heart Association guidelines, comprehensive lifestyle interventions can prevent up to 80% of premature cardiovascular events when consistently implemented. Evidence-based strategies — including Mediterranean-style nutrition, structured physical activity, weight optimization, stress management, and sleep hygiene — significantly reduce morbidity and mortality.

This presentation will discuss practical integration of lifestyle medicine into routine cardiology practice, barriers to long-term adherence, and culturally adapted preventive models relevant to diverse populations. Sustainable cardiovascular prevention begins with lifestyle transformation.
